Ingredients
(Makes 2 loaves)
- 800g all-purpose flour
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 450g lukewarm water
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the tray:
Line a baking tray with parchment paper. - Activate the yeast:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm water and yeast. Stir until the yeast dissolves completely. - Add sugar and salt:
Stir in the sugar and salt until combined. - Form the dough:
Gradually add the flour while kneading. Continue kneading until you have a soft dough that does not stick to your hands. - First rise:
Cover the bowl with the dough and place it in a warm spot. Allow it to rise for about 1 hour until it doubles in size. - Shape the loaves:
Knead the dough again and divide it into 2 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round loaf on a lightly floured surface. Place the loaves on the prepared tray. - Stamp and pierce:
Lightly flour the Prosphoro stamp and press it firmly onto the surface of each loaf. Use a toothpick to make 4 small holes around the stamped area. - Second rise:
Let the loaves rest for 25-30 minutes to rise again. - Prepare for baking:
Lightly sprinkle water over the surface of the loaves using your hands or a pastry brush. - Bake:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Place the loaves in the oven and immediately reduce the temperature to 170-180°C (338-356°F), depending on your oven. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the bread reaches a golden-brown color.
