Ingredients

  • 1 kg Abate Fetel pears
  • 500 g water
  • 400 g sugar
  • 4-5 cloves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pears
    Cut the pears into quarters and peel them. Remove the cores and seeds.
  2. Make the Syrup
    Place the water, sugar, and cloves into a pot.
    • If the pears are firm, add them to the pot immediately.
    • If the pears are soft, first boil the syrup for 10 minutes to dissolve the sugar, then add the pears.
  3. Cook the Pears
    Simmer over medium heat until the pears soften but remain intact. The syrup should be light and not overly thick.
  4. Cool and Store
    Transfer the cooked pears and syrup into a bowl. Let them cool completely, then refrigerate.
  5. For Long-Term Storage
    If you have a large batch, pack the hot pears and syrup into sterilized jars and seal tightly.
    Place a clean cloth at the bottom of a pot and arrange the jars upside down. Cover with water and boil for 15-20 minutes.
    Remove the jars, allow them to cool slightly, then tighten the lids firmly. Store in a cool, dry place or in the refrigerator.
