Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg beef
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 4 ripe tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 50 ml wine
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Sweet paprika
  • Olive oil

For the Rice

  • 300g long-grain rice
  • 650 ml water
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions for the Beef

  1. Heat olive oil in a pot over high heat and sear the beef on all sides. Once browned, transfer it to a bowl.
  2. In the same pot, sauté the onions and garlic for 1-2 minutes, then add the tomatoes and bring to a boil.
  3. Add the beef back to the pot along with the cinnamon stick, salt, pepper, paprika, and wine.
  4. Keep the pot uncovered and let the alcohol evaporate. Add just enough water to cover the meat.
  5. Simmer over medium heat for 1.5 to 2 hours until the beef is tender, adding more water if necessary.

Instructions for the Rice

  1. In a separate pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the rice and stir briefly to coat it in the warm oil.
  3. Pour in the water and add salt. Simmer on medium heat for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender.
  4. If you prefer softer rice, add a little more water and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Serve the rice alongside the braised beef and enjoy!
