Ingredients

  • 500g black lentils
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • Salt
  • Oregano
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lentils:
    • Wash the lentils thoroughly and place them in a pot. Cover with water, about two fingers above the lentils.
  2. Cook the Lentils:
    • Add the onion, garlic, salt, a drizzle of olive oil, and the chopped tomato to the pot.
    • Bring to a boil and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the lentils are tender, depending on their variety.
  3. Finish the Dish:
    • Once cooked, turn off the heat and add the oregano and the remaining olive oil. Stir gently to combine.
    • Adding oregano and olive oil at the end preserves their fresh aroma and enhances the flavor.
  4. Adjust as Needed:
    • If the lentils need more water during cooking, always add hot water to maintain the boiling process.
