Sun-dried Fig Balls Wrapped in Leaves
Sweet, sticky figs blended with walnuts, sesame seeds and a splash of ouzo, shaped into tight little “balls,” wrapped in fig leaves, and baked until warm and aromatic — a dessert that tastes like sun, tradition, and Mediterranean whispers.
Ingredients
- 15-20 figs for one small pie
- 4-5 walnuts, coarsely chopped
- A bit of sesame seeds
- 10 g ouzo
- 2 fig leaves, well-washed
- String
Instructions
- Slice the figs in half and leave them in the sun for 2-3 days to dry slightly without hardening.
- Cut the dried figs into small pieces using scissors and place them in a bowl.
- Add the walnuts, sesame seeds, and ouzo to the bowl, and knead everything together until the ingredients are well combined.
- Take some of the mixture in your hands and shape it into a tight, slightly flattened ball.
- Wrap the fig ball with fig leaves and secure it with string.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 15-20 minutes at 180-200°C, depending on your oven’s intensity.
Rustic Sweetness & Aromatic Wrapping
The figs soften in the sun, then combine with nuts and sesame to create rich texture. Wrapping them in fig leaves imparts an earthy aroma as they bake.
