Ingredients
- 500 g self-rising flour
- 300 g butter, slightly melted
- 250 g sugar
- 3 eggs
- 230 g milk
- 1 vanilla (1 packet or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
- Grated zest of one orange
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 25 g cocoa powder, sifted
- 3 tbsp milk (for the cocoa mixture)
Instructions
- Prep the Pan:
Grease your cake pan with butter and dust it lightly with flour, ensuring the cake won’t stick. - Make the Base Batter:
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy and the sugar has dissolved.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in the vanilla, orange zest, milk, and baking powder.
Finally, add the flour in stages, folding it in until all the ingredients are well combined and you have a smooth batter. - Divide the Batter:
Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly across the bottom. - Prepare the Chocolate Mixture:
In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder with the 3 tablespoons of milk until it forms a smooth paste.
Add this cocoa paste to the remaining half of the batter in your bowl and stir until the mixture is evenly chocolatey. - Layer and Swirl:
Pour the chocolate batter gently on top of the plain batter already in the pan.
Take a knife and swirl the two batters together slightly, creating a marbled effect. - Bake:
Place the pan in a preheated oven at 170-180°C (depending on your oven) and bake for about 35-40 minutes.
To check if it’s done, insert a knife into the center—if it comes out clean, your cake is ready.
