Ingredients

  • 250 g apples, peeled and cored
  • 120 g mixed dates, prunes, and raisins
  • 150 g apple cider vinegar
  • 150 g orange juice
  • 200 g sugar
  • Zest of one orange
  • Freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dried Fruits:
Chop the prunes and dates into small cubes. Place them in a bowl with the raisins and pour in the vinegar and orange juice. Let them soak for about 2 hours to soften.
  2. Combine Ingredients:
After 2 hours, transfer the soaked fruits along with the liquid into a large pot.
  3. Prepare the Apples:
Wash the apples thoroughly, cut them in half, remove the seeds, and chop them into small pieces. Add them to the pot.
  4. Add Remaining Ingredients:
Add the sugar, orange zest, freshly grated nutmeg, salt, and cayenne pepper to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  5. Cook the Chutney:
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat and simmer for 35-40 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. Cook until the chutney thickens and the flavors meld together.
  6. Jar the Chutney:
Once cooked, transfer the hot chutney into a sterilized jar. Seal tightly and let it cool. Store in a cool, dry place.
