Crispy Filo, Melty Feta & Sweet Finish
Blocks of salty feta wrapped in delicate filo pastry, fried until golden-crisp and then finished with a drizzle of honey and sprinkle of sesame — a sweet-savory appetizer that hits both crunch and cream in each bite.
Ingredients:
- 2 slices of feta cheese for saganaki
- 2 sheets of filo pastry
- Sesame seeds
- Olive oil
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filo Sheets:
Lay the filo sheets flat on your work surface. - Wrap the Cheese:
Place one slice of cheese on each filo sheet. Fold the edges of the filo over the cheese on the two sides, then roll the sheet around the cheese like an envelope. - Brush with Oil and Sesame:
Using a brush, lightly coat each wrapped cheese with olive oil. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top. - Fry to Perfection:
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the wrapped cheese “envelopes” and fry until they turn golden brown on both sides.
Sweet, Salty & Textural Contrast
The crisp filo casing gives way to soft, briny feta inside; sesame seeds add nuttiness, honey brings a mellow sweetness — each layer enhances the others.
Perfect Mezze or Showy Starter
Elegant enough for guests yet simple in prep; serve warm with fresh herbs or citrus zest for brightness — ideal as shareable starter or indulgent snack.
