History
The Tequila Sunrise is a visually stunning cocktail with a vibrant gradient resembling a morning sunrise. Originating in the 1930s at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, the original recipe included tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice, and soda water. The modern version, created in the 1970s by bartenders Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice, simplified the recipe with orange juice and grenadine, gaining immense popularity after being served at a Rolling Stones party.
Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 oz (60 ml) tequila
- 4 oz (120 ml) fresh orange juice
- 0.5 oz (15 ml) grenadine
- Ice cubes
- Orange slice and maraschino cherry for garnish
Instructions:
- Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
- Pour in the tequila and orange juice, stirring gently to combine.
- Slowly pour the grenadine down the side of the glass; it will sink and create the signature sunrise effect.
- Garnish with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry.
