
History
Kombucha, a fermented tea, has been enjoyed for centuries, believed to have originated in Northeast China around 220 BCE. It gained popularity for its health benefits, including improved digestion and immune support. Kombucha is made by fermenting sweet tea with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY).
Recipe: How to Make Kombucha Tea
Ingredients:
- 8 cups (2 liters) water
- 4 black or green tea bags
- 1 cup (200g) sugar
- 2 cups (500ml) starter tea (previously brewed Kombucha)
- 1 SCOBY
Instructions:
- Boil water and dissolve sugar. Add tea bags and steep until the water cools to room temperature.
- Remove tea bags and pour the tea into a large glass jar.
- Add the starter tea and gently place the SCOBY on top.
- Cover the jar with a breathable cloth secured with a rubber band.
- Ferment for 7–14 days at room temperature, depending on desired flavor.
- Remove the SCOBY and reserve some tea for the next batch.
- Pour into bottles and refrigerate.
